This Wonderland

In any ordinary week, in any ordinary life, there are moments filled with magic that lead you to your own wonderland.

Thursday was a day I was looking forward to. The weather app promised snow. Some may see it as a warning, but I thought of it as a promise.

It may be winter in Canada, but here in Southern Ontario this winter has been mild. We’ve only had one other memorable snow fall this season that barely lasted, and to be honest I’ve missed the snow.

Winter has changed a lot over the decades since I was a grade school kid running up and down six foot tall mounds of snow piled up at the end of driveways. It’s even changed since my second childhood as a mom, tobogganing, sledding, and building snowmen with my little kids. There’s a lot of joy to be found in snow, aside from shoveling and driving of course. And there’s a lot of beauty in it too.

If you live in a cold climate country then you’re well aware of the aesthetic beauty that comes with a snow fall. The soft and gentle kind that hushes the world and accentuates the limbs of trees. The feathery kind that falls like crystalline icing sugar over evergreens and farmer’s fields. Or the kind with light, fat flakes that powders everything in its white glow.

Thursday we had the powdery version. Not much, but about 5cm, and that was enough to make it a wonderland.

As I wandered around in it with my camera, it reconfirmed to me, that we don’t get to choose the timing of the wonderland that we call life. We do however get to choose the path to that wonder.

Sometimes you wait, and finally it happens. You don’t get to choose the timing, you get to choose the goal.

There’s a great joy in the acceptance of divine timing and joy in the journey to our own wonderland.

So tell me, what brought you joy this week?

Link your post in comments by next Friday, and I’ll link back in next Saturday’s post.
