Morning Coffee in Florence Full of Possibilities

It has been a few years since I’ve been in Florence, but the memories are as fresh as my morning coffee, that is full of possiblities.

Having just arrived the night before, I walked with my best friend along the narrow streets to a cafe in Florence. Yes, that Florence! The one in Italy that I had dreamed about visiting for a long time.

One summer day, while she and I lounged in the pool at a friend’s BBQ, Nina and I decided that we would follow our dream to visit Florence and the Tuscan countryside to celebrate her 60th birthday. There were several barriers, but the following summer, almost to the day, we did it!

And here we were sitting in a cafe, in Florence, one early morning over a cappuccino and croissant, having made it possible.

I love the smell of possibility in the morning.

The city had not yet come fully awake, it was earlyish and we were filled with the joy of anticipation to what the day would bring, all the possibilities. In just an hour or two we would be driven into the Tuscan countryside.

For now we’d lounge, take in the awakening sounds, the aroma of coffee, and the freshness of morning air as it lingered around us, tinkering with the ruffled sleeve of my red floral dress. Laughter and the musical sounds of Italian as a group of older men joined their friend at a table behind us giving us a friendly, “Buongiorno, Buon Giornata!” as they passed.

My heart smiled a grateful smile as I took a deep breath ready for all the possibilities. That same feeling came over me today as I looked out over the lake early this morning, the sun shining, tulips poking their heads through the garden beds, the willow doing her fabulous dance ready to burst forth.

The air is full of possibilities.

Wishing you a happy Monday and a beautiful week ahead.

The cafe is the il Baretto del Rifrullo in the San Niccolo district of Florence.
