It has been a few years since I’ve been in Florence, but the memories are as fresh as my morning coffee, that is full of possiblities.
Having just arrived the night before, I walked with my best friend along the narrow streets to a cafe in Florence. Yes, that Florence! The one in Italy that I had dreamed about visiting for a long time.
One summer day, while she and I lounged in the pool at a friend’s BBQ, Nina and I decided that we would follow our dream to visit Florence and the Tuscan countryside to celebrate her 60th birthday. There were several barriers, but the following summer, almost to the day, we did it!
And here we were sitting in a cafe, in Florence, one early morning over a cappuccino and croissant, having made it possible.
I love the smell of possibility in the morning.
Unknown
The city had not yet come fully awake, it was earlyish and we were filled with the joy of anticipation to what the day would bring, all the possibilities. In just an hour or two we would be driven into the Tuscan countryside.
For now we’d lounge, take in the awakening sounds, the aroma of coffee, and the freshness of morning air as it lingered around us, tinkering with the ruffled sleeve of my red floral dress. Laughter and the musical sounds of Italian as a group of older men joined their friend at a table behind us giving us a friendly, “Buongiorno, Buon Giornata!” as they passed.

My heart smiled a grateful smile as I took a deep breath ready for all the possibilities. That same feeling came over me today as I looked out over the lake early this morning, the sun shining, tulips poking their heads through the garden beds, the willow doing her fabulous dance ready to burst forth.
The air is full of possibilities.
Wishing you a happy Monday and a beautiful week ahead.
If you go:
The cafe is the il Baretto del Rifrullo in the San Niccolo district of Florence.

Italy is the #1 country on my must-go list (particularly Tuscany) and sometimes I despair whether I will ever get there. Your post gives me hope that it will happen, and it transported me there for a few minutes now, so thank you for that. Delightful!

So glad you enjoyed this little vignette Susan. Italy is spectacular. You will get there. Make a plan and go. I realize it may not be as easy as I make it sound. I had a few barriers to getting there and I overcame all. No regrets. Only great memories. Tuscany was a dream destination for me. I’m so glad I went. You will be too!

Such a brilliant description. Sounds like the perfect start to the day. You also triggered some nostalgic memories and just an appreciation of taking time in the morning to breathe before the day starts. We don’t take the time to do that, to appreciate the calm of morning enough

You’re right Brenda, we live in such a rushed time, that prevents us from enjoying slow mornings. It is such a beautiful time of day. Thanks for reading and appreciating. 💕

Thanks for transporting me back to a sunny morning in Florence. My eyes on stoppers at the first sight of the Ponte Vecchio, and then climbing up through the rose garden to look down on the city. All days should hold a snippet of this magic.

Definitely yes Jo. I love all these little snippets of travel memories. There’s so many and often it’s not about the major tourist attractions, but something simple and joyful that one experiences that stays in the memory bank. Thanks for reading! Glad it evoked some special memories for you!

So true Stacey. Coffee is a ritual is the Italian and other European cultures. Something that you lounge over and share with friends. Perhaps that’s why I love it so much. Thanks for being here!
