The song from my parents’ record player wafted through the house with Karen Carpenter’s voice. One line stuck in my memory, “rainy days and Sundays always get me down.”
Rainy days certainly do not have that affect on me. I love rainy days. They offer an opportunity to slow down, get things done indoors, and focus on the simple joys of life.
Today’s Bloganuary prompt asks us to write a short story or poem about rain. My joy lays in the visual poetry of a rainy day.
Here in 12 seconds are some things I believe rainy days are for. What do you love to do on rainy days?
A good singalong song. Yes, a book, coffee, wine… It was such a day yesterday and we went out for a very nice lunch. Sun’s back today!

Sounds perfect. We’ve got sunshine here today after a lot of gray. But it’s too windy and cold. I’m ready for spring.

I used to enjoy rainy days as a kid because it meant I wouldn’t have to go outside and we got to do some indoor activities as a family. Good times. As an adult, rainy became annoying – it’s not fun walking somewhere while it’s cold and the wind directs the rain straight into your face. Now, it just depends on whether I had some outdoor plans or not. Rain can be so melodic – helps me relax and sleep.

I love that song. I have an earworm now, but since it’s Karen Carpenter’s voice, I don’t mind that much.

Funny how that song still plays in my head from time to time after all these years. Thanks for reading Michelle.
