Hail pelted the windows. Large golf balls, smashing glass, denting vehicles, turning the streets to an icy wasteland with shards pointing skyward.

Some ran inside to burrow, wondering when the misery would end. Some battled, thinking their path out of the melee was the only one. Some brave souls weathered the storm, picked up the pieces and lent a helping hand up to those who couldn’t stand. Others toiled, endlessly searching for solutions and a way out.
Hope looked up at the slow-moving clouds. The darkness had passed, giving way to blue skies. Undoubtedly, the sun will come out again.

Wishing you all a very happy new year! I am hopeful for better things to come. Perhaps not right away, but certainly soon. This too shall pass.
I also hope to participate in the wonders of Friday Fictioneers more frequently in the new year. I enjoy it so very much and thank you all for reading. Thank you also to Rochelle for making this happen.
The very best to you and yours for 2021!
Friday Fictioneers is a place for flash fiction brought to us by the lovely Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Visit Rochelle’s site and use her Wednesday photo as a prompt to write a complete 100 word story.

Your story triggered a memory. 😀. We had one of these sort of storms a decade ago. Hail larger than golf balls. There are still dented cars on the road. Awesome to watch, but I was safe inside.
Those big storms are scary and cause a lot of damage. Glad you were safe inside.
Hope is well named. Her attitude is the right one!
Thanks for reading and appreciating Dale! I look forward to another FF this week, Just as I’m catching up, yikes!
My pleasure.
I’m still deciding if I play or not.
Yes, it will come out again. Thank you for a lovely, positive story of hope.

Dear Shelley,
I had a teacher who used to say attitude determined our altitude. Although it’s taken from aviation, I believe it’s a good lesson for humans as well. 😉 Your story illustrates that beautifully.
Shalom and happy new year,
Rochelle
Thanks so much Rochelle. Attitude is half the battle for sure. What a wise teacher. Happy new year to you as well. I will catch up on others’ post later this evening. Thank you Rochelle!
An excellent analogy. The sun will come out, tomorrow.
Thanks very much Keith! It always does, doesn’t it. Except in Norway this time of year. 🙂
That’s true!
When all hope is gone, the battle is truly over.

A neat metaphor for the dilemma facing the world right now. Happy New Year to you.
Thank you Liz! Happy new year to you too. I will catch up on reading others’ posts tonight. Thanks for your comment.
I like the metaphor of hail. Life does sometimes feel like that! And I agree with Larry, that we all react differently to stress; it’s what makes writing such a fascinating occupation.
So true Penny. Thanks very much for reading and sharing your thoughts.
Yes, keep it up! I’m enjoying these posts, and it’s interesting how a photo can inspire a tiny world of its own told through a tiny story. Looking forward to more!
Thanks Danell. You’re welcome to join in on the creative fun. Happy new year!
Happy New Years! 🥂
Short, yet poignant.
Thank you Brandon. Appreciate you reading and commenting.
Great metaphor

Good example of the wide variety of ways people can deal with extreme stress
That’s true. When faced with a dilemma humans react in a myriad of ways. What we do have in common however is the ability to love and always look for hope, even under dire circumstances. Thanks very much for reading.
