Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens A Secret Wonder

Just down the road from Niagara Falls, one of the world’s natural wonders, is a beautiful botanical garden with 99 lush acres of flowers, plants, trees and plenty of open spaces to wander and relax. The Niagara Parks Botanical Garden truly is a secret wonder, because when we visited, there were only a handful of people in sight. We visited in early fall, so perhaps that’s part of the secret to a relaxing unhurried experience.

What a beautiful day it was. Autumn had just arrived and the sun was still warm. Clouds moved lazily in a blue sky and birds chirped us onward to explore the delights of this tranquil place. The air was fresh, and the scent of grass cuttings bathed the light breeze in its alluring fragrance.

Nestled along the Niagara Parkway this space is a joyful pleasure for those who love gardens and the peace and quiet of nature’s rhythms. As we walked along its tranquil paths we saw horticultural students tending to the gardens with care and joy. A short conversation with one of the students provided delightful insights to the place.

The School of Horticulture was built in 1936 and it is these students that tend the grounds and also surrounding areas along the Niagara Parkway.

The diversity of plant life is a joy to see and the formal rose garden that boasts over 2400 roses, takes considerable time and effort to care for, I’m certain. Every corner of the place has some joy to witness.

By the main entrance there is a shop and The Butterfly Cafe, so named due to the Butterfly Conservatory right next door. The cafe offers outdoor seating, which is a pleasure on sunny days.
